The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association held its annual general meeting in Quebec City, QC from June 11-14. Here are highlights from the conference:
Hall of Fame
Ten new members, each from the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), were welcomed into the CCAA Hall of Fame.
Glenn Ruiter (John Abbott College) and John Davidson (Dawson College) were honoured in the Builder category. Olivier Caron (Cégep Garneau), Pascal Clément (Cégep Limoilou), Maxime Barabé (Cégep Garneau) and Olga Hrycak (Dawson College) were inducted in the Coach Category. Gino Brousseau (Cégep Limoilou), Vicky Tessier (Collège Ahuntsic), Julieth Lewis (Dawson College) and Varouj Gurunlian were celebrated in the Athlete Category.
The CCAA Hall of Fame now consists of 46 members, which includes 18 builders, 13 coaches and 15 athletes.

Honoured
The CCAA said goodbye to two-long time delegates: Leigh Goldie (Ambrose University, ACAC) and Michele McConney (Georgian College, OCAA). Goldie and McConney were presented “CCAA Senator” commemorative rings on the final day of meetings.
Goldie served the CCAA for 26 consecutive years. He was the Men’s Volleyball Convenor for an 19 straight seasons (1992-2011) before joining the CCAA Executive in 2011. Goldie sat as VP Programs from 2011-14 and President from 2014-18.
McConney was a part of the Association for 21 years. She was Women’s Volleyball Convenor for 11 straight seasons (1991-2002) and then served as the OCAA Director from 2008-14 before joining the CCAA Executive as VP Governance from 2014-18.
New CCAA Members
- Collège André-Grasset (RSEQ) in Montreal, QC. In 2018-19, the Phénix will compete in CCAA Cross-Country Running
- Cégep régional de Lanaudière à L'Assomption (RSEQ) in L'Assomption, QC. In 2018-19, the Cyclones will compete in CCAA Cross-Country Running and CCAA Golf.
- Cégep de Rimouski (RSEQ) in Rimouski, QC. In the 2018-19 season, the Pionniers will compete in CCAA Cross-Country Running
- Cégep de Victoriaville (RSEQ) in Victoriaville, QC. In 2018-19, the Vulkins will compete in CCAA Cross-Country Running
- Okanagan College (PACWEST) in Kelowna, BC. In 2018-19, the Coyotes will compete in Men’s and Women’s Basketball.
CCAA Member Awards
- Capilano University (PACWEST) won the Community Service Award for hosting the 2018 Junior All-Native Basketball Tournament
- Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (ACAC) won the Innovation Award for its Trojans Leadership Training initiative
- Brian McLennon of Douglas College (PACWEST) was named the CCAA Athletic Director of the Year
- Lakeland College (ACAC) won the Marketing Incentive Program Elite award
2019 AGM
The 2019 annual general meeting will be hosted by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
